Andrew B. Margolis has devoted his entire legal career to the handling of criminal matters. Originally from Smithtown, New York, Mr. Margolis graduated from Smithtown High School in 1993 and attended Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts, where he graduated Cum Laude, receiving a B.A. in Politics and Legal Studies in 1997. While still in college, Mr. Margolis was part of a legal team that successfully sued the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority and forced it to provide better access for people with disabilities.
In June, 1998, Mr. Margolis moved to Atlanta to attend the Emory University School of Law, where he was immediately drawn to the practice of criminal law. Soon after completion of his first year of law school, he began assisting attorneys in the Fulton County Public Defender’s Office in representing clients who could not afford to hire their own attorneys. That first summer, Mr. Margolis assisted in the trial of a client charged with murder and armed robbery. The client was found not guilty. Later on, while still in law school, Mr. Margolis began working as a prosecutor for the City of Atlanta, conducting preliminary hearings and trials of city ordinance violations.
Andrew Margolis graduated from Emory Law School in 2001 and immediately began serving as an Assistant District Attorney. Mr. Margolis was responsible for prosecuting all types of cases from minor traffic violations to major felonies, including homicides. Mr. Margolis has successfully tried cases involving most major violent felonies, including murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault and sex crimes. He has tried cases involving burglary, theft and forgery. As part of the D.A.’s Office, Mr. Margolis also had the opportunity to develop a particular specialization in the area of domestic violence while serving as a domestic violence prosecutor. Andrew Margolis has also handled a wide variety of drug-related crimes, ranging from simple possession of various substances to drug trafficking. He served as lead drug court prosecutor while with the District Attorney’s Office.
In 2004, Mr. Margolis entered private practice. Building on skills and relationships gained as a prosecutor, he has continuously and aggressively protected the individual rights of his clients charged with criminal offenses in the Superior, State, Magistrate and Municipal courts of Georgia. Andrew B. Margolis currently represents clients charged with major and minor felonies, misdemeanors, domestic violence offenses, DUI, minor traffic offenses and other crimes in both Georgia and New York. Andrew Margolis has further honed his particular skill in domestic violence situations and represents clients who both need help getting out of an abusive situation or who may be falsely accused of domestic violence or stalking.
Since many family violence cases may involve issues of divorce, child custody, visitation and child support, Mr. Margolis also represents clients across the state in divorces, legitimations, and other actions involving child custody and child support.
Andrew B. Margolis enjoys a reputation as a hard-hitting professional with a formidable knowledge of the law. Let Andrew Margolis and The Margolis Legal Group, P.C., use those skills and reputation to help you with your situation.
