Wouldn’t be surprised if the idea was dropped when news spread that the Marlins would be dropping “Florida” from their name. If I remember correctly, back before the name changed to just Rays there was some talk about removing the Tampa Bay part of the name as well. Maybe they wanted to look into the possibility of taking up the “Florida” name.
