  • GOALS:-- REPEAL-- 1.) Repeal Dodgeville Municipal Code Ordinance No 1176 sec. 12.10(3) which forbids citizens to shelter more than two cats on their own premises and forbids the presence of cats anywhere but on their owner's property and permits impoundment and killing of cats who are not on the owner's land or the killing of cats if the owner has more than two.-- BIG BROTHER-- 2.) Require the City's Fire and Police Commission to investigate the Chief of Police's involvement in passage of Municipal Ordinance No 1176 sec. 12.10(3); and the Police Chief's policies regarding the investigation of animal abuse complaints; and the Police Chief's protection of citizens and their animals from predatory violence. Initiate investigation of the Police Department's practice of giving animal traps to individuals who have shot, or otherwise hurt other citizen's companion animals.-- PROPOSE HUMANE SOLUTIONS INSTEAD-- 3.) Educate about effective and humane methods of eliminating problems caused by cats and kittens such as the trap, neuter, and release program.--DEFENSE-- 4.) Conduct or assist the legal defense of cat owners victimized by either the ordinance or the Police Department.-- DEMOCRACY-- 5.) Advocate that the city post department information, departmental budgets, city budgets and proposed budgets, Notices, Agendas and Meeting dates/times. Publish the minutes of sub-committies, the full council meetings, commissions and other meetings related to the development and implementation of rules and funded projects that affect the rights and daily lives of taxpayers.-- PEOPLE POWER-- 6.) Maintain and administer a Legal Education and Defense Fund for the purposes listed above.
