TEFCO A.G has developed a new process for serial production of castings in compacted graphite iron (CGI). This paper is intended as an introduction to the subject. It compares the “traditional” way of treating a melt with magnesium to form ductile iron or compacted iron with the new process, called TEFCOä-CGI In Mold. CGI is the abbreviation for Compacted Graphite Iron. The following is the case study done by our research and design department in late 2003 and tested at our foundry in Hamburg, Germany.
